5-axis machining in Vietnam

5-Axis CNC Machining in Vietnam

One drawing, up to 3 Vietnam shops that already run 5-axis work. We are a matching service, not a machine shop.

Not a machine shop

We own no machines and make no parts. We read your drawing and match it to shops that do.

Up to 3 shops per RFQ

A short matched list, never a broadcast. You are not bidding against a directory.

Simultaneous is checked, not assumed

Plenty of shops advertise 5-axis and run 3+2 indexed. We ask which, and we tell you which you are getting.

Why buyers send 5-axis work here

It comes down to the match: shops that fit your part, from the first quote.

Matched by specialisation

Your RFQ goes to up to 3 shops that run 5-axis work regularly, picked for the motion (simultaneous or 3+2 indexed), material and part size. Not a general directory.

Professional suppliers

Shops in the network quote to your drawing, communicate clearly and keep you updated while your parts are made.

You deal with the shop

Quotes, terms and delivery are agreed between you and the shop. Free for buyers.

What Vietnamese 5-axis shops actually run

Vietnam covers a narrower band of 5-axis work than most supplier lists suggest. The work that lands well is below. Titanium and Inconel work exists but the pool of shops is small, and if your part sits there we say so rather than sending it around.

WorkWhat it looks likeSay this in your RFQ
Housings and manifoldsAngled bores and ports that need the head tilted, usually aluminium or stainless.Bore axes and their relationship to the mounting face.
Jigs, fixtures and toolingOne-off and small batch, often the first job a buyer places to test a shop.Whether the fixture has to repeat, and to what.
Machine and equipment partsBrackets, arms, covers and mounts for machinery built in or exported from Vietnam.Finished weight and whether the part is structural.
Mould and die componentsCores, cavities and inserts. Hardened work is a narrower pool of shops.Hardness after heat treat, and who does the heat treat.
Electronics and semiconductor partsSmall precision parts, tight flatness, often aluminium or stainless with a specified finish.Cleanliness and handling requirements, if any.
Automotive and motorcycle support partsPrototype and aftermarket volumes rather than tier-one production runs.Real annual volume, so the shop quotes the right process.

Part families and the motion they need

Simultaneous 5-axis or 3+2 indexed

Both get sold as 5-axis and they are not the same job. A shop with an indexed machine can quote your part and still miss the surface you drew. We ask which machine does what before anything is passed on.

5-axis simultaneous3+2 indexed
What the machine doesAll five axes move together while cutting, so the tool stays normal to a changing surface. The part is rotated to a fixed angle, clamped there, and cut with three axes.
SuitsFreeform surfaces, impellers, blended fillets, deep angled features that need a short tool.Multiple flat faces and holes at different angles on one part.
SetupsUsually one.Usually one, and this is where most of the benefit comes from.
ProgrammingCAM with full kinematics and collision checking. Longer to prove out.Closer to 3-axis programming, repeated per orientation.
What buyers get wrongAssuming any 5-axis machine is being used this way.Assuming 3+2 cannot hold the tolerance. It very often can, and cheaper.

How to check a shop runs what it advertises

How it works

  1. Send the drawing

A STEP file, or a PDF carrying the tolerances. Tell us quantity and when you need parts.

  2. We read it

Envelope, material, the tolerance that drives the part and the inspection you expect, checked against what each shop runs today. If the part does not need 5-axis we tell you that too.

  3. You get a short list

Up to 3 shops. They quote you directly and you deal with them directly. We take no commission on your order.

What we check before we match

Every item here is something a shop can prove or not. None of it relies on a claim on a web page.

  • Machine list with models. Make, model, number of axes and travels. A model number can be looked up; "5-axis capability" cannot.
  • Simultaneous or indexed. Asked directly, and cross-checked against the machine model and the CAM they run.
  • Part envelope. Your part has to fit with the head tilted, which is smaller than the table size suggests.
  • Measurement. What they own, what they subcontract, and whether they can produce the report you need.
  • Material experience. Whether they already cut your material, not whether they are willing to try it.
  • Export paperwork. Whether they have exported before and can produce origin documents without help.

Sourcing a machined part from Vietnam

Vietnam is a separate country of origin from China. Parts machined in Vietnam from material that is substantially transformed there are Vietnamese origin, and that is the point of the exercise for most buyers moving work under a China plus one plan.

Origin is determined by where the substantial transformation happens, not by where the company that sells to you is registered. A shop that buys finished parts from elsewhere and re-invoices them is not giving you Vietnamese origin, whatever the invoice says.

You will be asked for origin documentation at import. Agree at RFQ stage who issues it and what form it takes, rather than discovering the gap when the goods are on the water.

Specific tariff lines, surcharges and their expiry dates change frequently and some have already lapsed or been extended since this page was written. We do not publish a rate here that you might rely on. Ask your customs broker for the current position on your HS code and origin before you price anything.

The calendar matters as much as the duty. Tet stops most shops for one to two weeks and the queue in front of it fills early, so a February delivery is planned in November.

Questions we get

From buyers

Are you a machine shop?

No. We own no machines and we make no parts. We read your drawing, decide which shops in Vietnam actually suit it, and pass it to a short list. You contract with the shop directly and we take no commission on your order.

Who sees my drawing, and when?

We see it when you send it. After that it goes only to the matched shops, up to 3 of them, and only once you have agreed to that list. If you ask for an NDA we sign one before your files go anywhere.

How do I know a shop really runs 5-axis simultaneous?

Because we ask for the machine model and the CAM system, not for a claim. Many shops that advertise 5-axis run 3+2 indexed work, which is a legitimate process and often the cheaper right answer. What matters is that you are told which one you are buying.

What does it cost me?

Nothing. Buyers pay no fee and no commission. We care whether your part genuinely fits the shop we send it to.

What if my part does not need 5-axis?

We will say so. A part with features on several faces is often cheaper and just as accurate on 3+2 indexed, or on a 3-axis machine with a second setup. Telling you that costs us a lead and is the reason to trust the rest.

How fast do you reply?

Within 24 business hours, including when the answer is that we cannot place the part.

From machine shops

What do I see before I take a request?

A preview of the part: type, material, quantity, tolerance band, destination and timing, with the buyer identity removed. You decide from that whether the job fits your machines.

How many shops get the same RFQ?

Up to 3. A buyer comparing three considered quotes is better served than one holding ten identical ones, and you get a real chance of winning it.

Do you take a commission on the order?

No. Once you take a request you deal with the buyer directly, you invoice them directly, and what happens on that order and every repeat after it is yours.

What if I turn one down?

Nothing happens. Declining a request that does not fit your machines has no effect on the ones you are sent afterwards.

From vendors

Can I pay to be listed or ranked?

No. Placement is not sold and there is no paid ranking. A vendor is named in a guide only where the technical context genuinely calls for it.

What do you want from a vendor?

Specifics: what you stock in Vietnam, real lead times from local stock, whether you support the shop floor in Vietnamese, and what you cannot supply. That is what makes a mention useful to a shop rather than an advert.

Do you sell the shop list?

No. We do not sell contact lists. Where an introduction makes sense we ask the shop first.
